Dr. Wahid Rezaie is an orthopedic consultant of foot ankle surgery at Onze Lieve Vrouw Hospital in Aalst Belgium. He specializes in the treatment of all foot and ankle disorders in both adults and pediatrics.
His primary interests include care of patients with foot and ankle deformities, osteo-arthritis, sports injuries, and diabetic foot disorders. The foot and ankle unit of Onze Lieve Vrouw Hospital has extensive experience in revising or salvaging complex foot problems. They treat patients who come for a second opinion from all over Belgium as well as internationally.
Dr. Wahid Rezaie has focused on innovative methods for the treatment of foot and ankle disorders such as Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS).
Minimally invasive surgery refers to a type of surgery to correct foot deformities like hallux valgus and hammertoe, through tiny incisions that requires little or no stitching. Many foot surgeries can be carried out safely and effectively using these techniques, which are less invasive. This also means that many operations can be performed under local anesthetic. Recovery from minimally invasive surgery is usually quicker and less painful than in a traditional open surgery. Patients are mobile from day one after surgery and generally return to most activities from six weeks.
Dr. Wahid Rezaie also participates in Multidisciplinary diabetic foot clinic of Onze Lieve Vrouw Hospital, which is one of the largest diabetic limb salvage center in Belgium, and certified as specialty center for diabetic foot care.
The diabetic foot clinic provides comprehensive assessment, diagnosis and treatment for patients with diabetic foot disease.
This team is composed of endocrinologist, orthopedic foot and ankle surgeon, vascular surgeon, diabetes care nurses, podiatrists, certified wound care specialists, and certified orthotists. The diabetic foot clinic of Onze Lieve Vrouw Hospital has more than two decades experience and expertise in managing deformities such as diabetic Charcot foot.
